About the software..

Rapid Recovery is an advanced, ‘agentless’ technology that incorporates two software applications on the customers’ LAN:

the DS-Client and the DS-User.

DS-client

The DS-Client software executes as a service on any Windows (XP/2000/2003), Linux (Red Hat Enterprise 3, Suse Enterprise 9), Unix, AS/400 or Novell system. The Client is the engine that performs all the customer-side activities and functions.

Client functions include create/maintain/delete backup sets, monitor activities, initiate demand backups and restores etc.

The Client can browse and backup the data of every computer visible to it on a LAN. This requires only one Client software installation on your network or PC (i.e. no software agents are required on each target backup or node).

DS-user

The DS-User is the graphical interface (GUI) that easily enables a LAN administrator or user to control the Client’s functions.

At least one User installation is required to manage the DS-Client(s).

The DS-User can be installed on the same computer as the DS-Client, or as a remote management feature, on any other computer that has TCP/IP connection to the DS-Client.

User Deployment Considerations:

  • Distributed (to any or all network nodes): End-users on each node can define their own backups and perform their own restores, thereby relieving the LAN administrator of those tasks. However, a LAN administrator maintains control of the DS-Client and can restrict the amount of data users select to backup, and may override backup selections to avoid redundancy and extra costs.
  • Centralized (on the DS-Client computer or LAN administrator’s computers): LAN administrator will retain control of the backups and restores. In case a user needs a restore, the LAN administrator must be involved.

DS-User access to the DS-Client adopts the existing LAN security model
