rapid recovery E by ebackup
Inc. not only allows any SME corporation to enable their own
offsite backup and restore systems, but it can enable corporations
to bill and charge internal customers such as departments,
workgroups
or
branches
for the
backup services
that they use. The product performs superior backup and restore
functionality and includes functions, features, tools and an
architecture
designed specifically to deliver backup / restore as a utility
service.
Using rapid recovery E,
internal divisions can track their consumption of storage used
for backup / restore purposes. This
tracking is used for budgeting and financial analysis. In addition,
rapid recovery E allows managers to justify
and recover storage
outlays across and from internal customers' budgets based on
their particular usage.
The following are some selected features. For more detailed
information,
please view the
rapid recovery E white paper.
Advanced Billing System
ebackup rapid recovery E includes a multi-tiered
billing system which generates invoices, credits, and commissions
for
routine backup services as well as for ancillary services such
as setup / installation, disaster recovery drills, telecommunications
and media migration. Storage capacity used for backup is billable
either on a $-per-MB-per-month basis or for a flat monthly fee.
System administrators may create numerous billing scales and
apply them to each company department differently. In addition,
departments may choose to allocate a specific budget that can
only be changed by authorized users. This feature helps to keeps
costs in line by notifying management when budgets are surpassed.
SLA Management
If an IT department acts as an internal "storage service
provider" and charges other departments in the company
for their backup needs, those departments are entitled to a
specified
quality of service. rapid recovery E allows
service level agreements (SLA) to exist between various departments
and their
service providers, with different levels of service priced accordingly.
Using rapid recovery E, company departments can determine
whether service levels are met - and if not, the software can
credit these departments automatically.
Discovery Tool
rapid recovery E includes a sophisticated software module
that discovers the characteristics of primary (existing) data
on the network or on any particular machine or drive. The Discovery
Tool allows administrators to select what is to be discovered
and - with the click of a button - generate a variety of "presentation
quality" reports in MS Excel, HTML, and text formats. This
makes it easy to recognize and predict backup trends, reduce the
overall amount of storage that is managed, investigate storage
abuse and drive down storage management costs.
Performance Monitoring
Another software module bundled with rapid recovery
E allows
administrators to monitor the performance of backups. The DS-Statistics
Tool collects helpful information such as the duration of the
backup, amount of incremental changes since last backup and compression
ratios. A variety of different reports can be generated.
Agentless Architecture
rapid recovery E is unique because there is no need to install
an "agent" or "client" on every target machine
that needs to be protected. The software that ebackup provides
fully integrates with NT domains, Trusts and Novell? NDS trees
to adopt the LAN's existing security settings.
Efficient Backups
rapid recovery E minimizes the amount of data sent offsite
by using delta blocking as well as common file elimination technologies.
This ensures that the same data is never transmitted offsite more
than twice, thereby conserving bandwidth. Moreover, the software
is sophisticated enough to recognize where duplicate data exists,
regardless of the location of this data on the network or the
names of the individual files.
Cross-Platform Compatibility
rapid recovery E can protect data on a wide range of platforms
- including Microsoft Windows, Novell NetWare, UNIX, and Linux.
NetWare 3 capability includes support for bindery, and NetWare
4 and 5 includes support for NDS. Windows environments are fully
supported including Permissions and Streams on NTFS volumes.
"Live Backup" Capability
MS SQL and MS Exchange are fully supported without a need to
stop the service or install any agent on the host machine. In
addition, online or "hot" backups for Oracle 8 are also
supported.
Advanced Reporting Tools
rapid recovery E generates a variety of different reports,
including:
